Happy Read a Book day, readers! Whether your little one loves to tuck themselves away for a long adventure or to drift off to sleep while you read their favourite rhyming book, reading is a huge part of any childhood.
While we love our classics, there’s nothing we like more than discovering brand new children’s books to delight and captivate our families. If your child is in need of a new favourite book, here are three of our personal picks from 2018 so far…
Best for Giggles
Got a little one who’s down in the dumps? Whether it was a bad day at school or a fall out with a friend, nothing will cheer up a grumpy gus like Hello, Hot Dog! by Lily Murray. Featuring the nail-biting tale of a hot dog making a heroic escape from his bun, Hello, Hot Dog! Is filled with dazzling drawings, bright primary colours, and lots of dramatic opportunity for readers as the book races through different characters and voices. Perfect for brightening up a rainy day.
Best for Adventure
For older children, The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson is bound to enthral. The book follows the adventures of Marinka, a young girl who is learning the family trade of guiding the dead into the afterlife… Philosophical, fascinating, and filled with whimsical humour, The House with Chicken Legs is a great choice for sparking conversation with curious kids.
Best for Bedtime
When it comes to bedtime, nothing beats a rhyming book for soothing little eyelids closed. One of our new favourites is Chitra Soundar’s You’re Safe With Me. Telling the tale of the baby animals of the Indian forest trying to get to sleep in a storm, this book is bound to help children drift off feeling safe and comforted. Plus with its gorgeous palette and beautiful drawings, this is one children’s book that will look just as good on your coffee table as it does on your child’s bedside table.
