Rain – the destroyer of all planned activities! But don’t let a little April shower dampen your spirit, turn a rain day into a film day, dig out the popcorn and snuggle under a blanket with your little ones. Here are our top 5 picks…

Mary Poppins

Made in 1964, this classic includes everything a good film should; dancing penguins, bottomless handbags and the questionable dulcet cockney tones of Dick Van Dyke. What more could you ask for?

There are so many brilliant Disney films that it took us a while to decide, but after much office dispute we settled on Aladdin. A tale of love, genies and lamps, set in the fictional town of Agrabah, Aladdin is a wonderful way to while away a few rainy hours with the kids, just try not to sing too loudly! Disney are apparently in the process of making a live-action version of the film, we wait to see if it can top this one.

Finding Nemo

Never have fish been so cute! Finding Nemo is the kind of film you can watch over and over again (which we have done!). After Nemo gets lost, his father swims the ocean (alongside the gorgeously dippy Dory) to find his son, encountering a variety of colourful underwater characters along the way. Pixar recently released a sequel, Finding Dory, which is brilliant, but nothing can quite top the first one.

The Princess Bride

What to say about The Princess Bride? If you haven’t seen it already then what did you spend your childhood doing?! And if you have seen it then now is the time to introduce this absolute classic to your children. It tells the story of Westley (a humble farmhand) who must rescue his true love, Princess Buttercup, from the hateful Prince Humperdinck. It’s a romantic fantasy adventure comedy film – it literally ticks every box!

The Secret Life of Pets

And finally, we thought we better include a more recent film in our list too. There have been loads of fabulous children’s films released lately, but one that is definitely a hit with our kids is The Secret Life of Pets. Featuring dogs, cats, an evil rabbit and even a hawk, this film tells the story of what pets get up to once their humans have left for the day. A great choice for any animal loving little ones.
