As this year draws to a close we can look back on the great family films we enjoyed and look forward to some crackers next year. We’ve done a bit of snooping around and come up with a sneak look at some of the best family films that are due in 2014.
1. The Nut Job from Open Road Films with Liam Neeson, Will Arnett and Sarah Gadon is a computer animated comedy from director Peter Lepeniotis. It’s due out in January and promises to be a firm favourite with kids everywhere. It’s set in fictional Oakton and tells the story of a mischievous squirrel and his sidekick, Buddy the Rat. The two naughty characters are planning a nut store heist to end all heists and the pair find themselves in a pickle of epic proportions. If you just can’t wait, then you can watch a trailer for the film here. This eagerly awaited animal adventure is sure to delight audiences all over the UK.
2. Mr Peabody and Sherman is another computer animated offering from 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation. Mr. Peabody is a talking dog who is the cleverest being on the planet and he’s joined by his adopted boy, Sherman who’s rather impish dabbling with their time travelling machine leads to disastrous scenarios. However, their adventures while they attempt to put everything back on track before the space-time conundrum is destroyed beyond repair provide chuckles all the way through. Directed by Rob Minkoff (of Lion King fame) and featuring the voice of Mel Brooks (amongst an impressive cast), this film is set to take movie going audiences by storm the world over. 3. Muppets Most Wanted brings back the Muppets in a big bad way. Everybody loves the Muppets – kids and parents alike and the sequel to 2011’s The Muppets has been eagerly awaited by cinema goers in both the United States and the UK. Directed by James Bobin, this madcap adventure stars Ricky Gervais (The Office), Tina Fey (of Saturday Night Live fame in the US) and Modern Family man, Ty Burrel. According to a recent interview with Kermit the Frog the film tells the story of the Muppets’ haphazard happenings whilst on a world tour. Coming up against Kermit’s doppelganger, who is the world’s most wanted criminal, leads to bedlam like scenes for all of the gang when as they strive to sort things out.
