Cute Hairstyles For Your Little Girl
Chances are if you have a little girl, then you like to dress her up now and again. This can be great fun (as long as you don’t go over the top and dress her in clothes that are uncomfortable and difficult to play in). One great thing about little girls is the infinite number of cute hairstyles you can do for her – whether it’s an intricate style with decorations for a posh part or a pair of French plaits to keep her hair out of her way in school, playing hairdressers can be great fun.
My granddaughter recently had her hair combed for the very first time (by me) at the age of 18 months. She wasn’t too sure at first, but I combed it while it was wet from the bath using my wide tooth comb and being very careful not to tug. After doing this a few days running, I managed to persuade her to sit in her high chair and have her hair “done” – I used a fine mist of water and combed her hair into a ponytail successfully. The next step is sweeping it into a Mohawk and putting a pair of cool shades on her for a photo.
My own daughters both had long hair and I always French-plaited it for school – it’s a great way of keeping stray wisps under control which lowers the risk of getting head lice. Although a French plait looks complicated, it’s quite easy once you’ve mastered it.
A French plait is much easier to do on somebody else than it is on yourself, so you’re halfway there already! There’s a great tutorial here on how to do one with easy to follow drawings that make the whole process look much simpler than I could. Once you’ve mastered the basics, then the fun can begin.
Part the hair down the middle and do twin French plaits, one on each side of the head. When you’ve worked in all the hair from the scalp, carry on braiding and finish off with cool ribbons. If your daughter has a party or special occasion coming up, French plait her hair for a couple of days before hand ready to do a mega cool style for the party.
Once your daughter has worn her hair in French plaits for a couple of days, it’s time to get creative for a real party look. Her hair will be crinkly without the need to use hot irons which damage the hair. She can wear it loose or held back with an Alice band. She could wear a small crown of flower in it for a really pretty, girly look.
You could sweep it up into a really high pony tail and use a wide fabric pony tail holder for a punky, modern look. Try putting it up in pigtails with bows in for a zany, off-beat look. Or what about puppy tails (front pigtails with the back left loose)? The possibilities really are endless.
Keep a wide selection of pony tail bands (always use the soft ones and never use elastic bands as they will break the hair) so that you have something fun to go with whatever your little girl is wearing. Ribbons look great on little girls and you can get some real bargains on eBay so that you always have cool ribbons.
If your little girl has shorter hair, she needn’t miss out. The market is awash nowadays with hair ornaments, from Alice bands to crowns to clips in every colour imaginable. Whether your little girls wants to wear flowers in her hair or fish or frogs or cartoon characters, the choice is staggering.
