How to do your own sports day with the kids this summer - The Room To Grow games
The long awaited Tokyo 2020 Olympics are kicking off this week with the opening ceremony showing this Friday the 23rd July. At Room To Grow we love getting involved in all the fun, from table tennis to taekwondo! There really is something for everyone. The holidays are beginning and it’s time again to keep the little ones entertained, so we’ve rounded up our ultimate Room To Grow Games guide, for endless hours of summer sports fun.
Teams and team names
Now that restrictions have eased, why not join forces with the neighbours children, or other friends from school to create teams for their RTG games event. For younger kids, you could assign a team name or colour, and for older kids, choosing a country’s flag to represent can turn into an impromptu geography lesson- better brush up on your own knowledge first!
Mascots
Tokyo 2020’s mascot is a cute but fierce little figure called Miraitowa, who has special teleporting powers. Let the kids use Miraitowa for inspiration to create their own Japanese-inspired character, or they can decorate their own special mascot to cheer them on from the side lines throughout your Room To Grow games event.
Outdoor activities
-Bean bag throwing into hoops/shoes/buckets/bowls
-Egg and spoon races
-Gymnastics routines

Closing ceremony and medals
It's time to choose the winners! Who will take gold, silver or bronze? Encourage them to use their creativity to make their own Olympic medals using household items. Medal giving is a time to be proud, so shout about their achievements and praise them for their efforts. All games need a closing ceremony, so get out the homemade confetti, balloons and bunting for a spectacular Room To Grow games celebratory send-off! It's sure to be a sports day with the kids to remember.
